On May 6, 2025, Salt Lake City Mayor, Erin Mendenhall, proposed four new city flags. She posted the following on Facebook:
“Today, I’ve proposed adopting four City flags by ordinance. Symbols can represent our values and unite us. I’ve had countless Utahns tell me why they chose to make Salt Lake City their home: because they are free to live lives that are authentic, honest, and respected, even through our differences. I want Salt Lakers to look up at a flag flying at City Hall and know that their City proudly values diversity, equity, and inclusion—and that their City values everyone.
“In addition to our traditional Sego Flag, these three flags celebrate human rights–the history of Juneteenth, the love of our LGBTQIA residents, and a commitment to celebrate the lives of our transgender community. They represent our American values sewn in color and cloth.”
